HUNSTANWORTH HUNSTANWORTH NY 94 NW 4/67 (inset) Former school and 29.6.71 house attached (Old Church House) GV II
School and house, now house. Circa 1862 by S.S. Teulon for Rev. Daniel Capper of Newbiggin. Snecked sandstone of varied colours with ashlar dressings, plinth and quoins; diaper-patterned roof of purple and green slates. L-plan. Early English style. North front of 2 storeys and 3 irregular bays, the right lower, has side steps with chamfered-coped parapet to 6-panel door in central bay, with alternate-block jambs and flat stone lintel. At left, 3 grouped shouldered lights with sloping sills and stone surrounds, stepped over small lancets flanking heads of lights. Flat stone lintel and alternate-block jambs to narrow light at right of door; 2 small shouldered lights high above door, the left shorter on sill band. Steeply-pitched roof in 3 parts, with wide left and lower right parallel slopes united by narrow strip from eaves of left to ridge of right. Substantial coped chimney, with one set-back, at right of highest roof, has roll-moulded string raised over central pierced bellcote. Central rear one-storey wing with low right extension under roof of 2 pitches and tall chimney, with off-set, between pitches.
