24/26 War Memorial
II
War memorial. Circa 1918. Portland stone. Life-size figure of soldier, hands
resting on rifle, on c. 4m. high pedestal which has unfluted Corinthian columns
at corners supporting entablature with wide cornice. Low square step to plinth;
pedestal has names of dead 1914-1918 and 1939-1945 on all sides, one side
devoted to Billy Row, one to Grahamley,one to Roddymoor and one to White Lea
districts. Fluted frieze and laurel wreath above each panel.
