Terrace of 16 houses, part of square. 1821. By William Chadwell Mylne, Surveyor to the New River Estate; restored c. 1970 by Andrews Sherlock, Architects. Beige stock bricks set in Flemish bond with banded stucco ground floors; artificial-slate mansard roofs (no. 16 roof obscured; no. 17 Welsh-slate) with dormers, brick party-wall stacks. Side-hall entrance plan with staircase. Three storeys, basement and attic; 2 windows each. Steps rise to entrance on right (no. 17 entrance on return in Cruickshank Street): doorway (nos. 12, 14, 16, 17 architraved) with fluted 1/4 column jambs (nos. 12 & 14 with panelled pilaster jambs & console brackets; no. 13 fluted pilaster jambs; no. 17 altered) carrying modillioned corniced-head (nos. 13 & 15 new), original 4-panelled (nos. 2, 4, 10, 11, 12, 15) or 6-panelled (no. 16) door (others C20) and fanlight (nos. 11-16 patterned; nos. 5-6, 8-10 new; others plain). Ground-floor 2/2 (nos. 4, 7, 12, 14), 3/3 (no. 2), 6/6 and architraved (no. 17) and 8/8 (nos. 5, 6, 9, 10, 11, 13, 15, 16) sashes, no. 14 with Rococo style cast-iron window guard. Gauged-brick flat arches to upper floors. 1st floor with stucco sill band to 6/6 (no. 17 with 4-light casement sashes and rectangular overlights) full-length sashes set in arched recesses linked by stucco impost bands; coupled iron-bracketed balconies with iron railings in diamond, Greek key and circular pattern (no. 15 with Gothic pattern; no. 16 with spiderweb pattern; no. 17 with anthemion and Vitruvian scroll pattern). 2nd floor 6/6 sashes. Plain parapets with stone coping. No. 16 with richly moulded stucco cornice above 2nd floor and full-height 3rd storey with 3/3 sashes. Noticable patching-in and rebuilding to upper storeys. Attached iron area railings. Originally called Myddelton Terrace.
