Shop with flat over. Early C19 refacing of earlier building,
probably gable facing with half-hip to front stops short of
present front of building; large rubble stack on right slope
to rear.
3 storeys, attic and cellar; 2-window range. First floor has
two 6/6-pane sashes in plain reveals with stone cills; second
floor has two similar windows. Ground floor has C20 shopfront
with 2 timber bow windows with glazing bars flanking similar
door to centre all recessed within ashlar surround with
rusticated quoins to left and right angles, frieze now with
timber sign and moulded stone cornice. Fire escape door from
attic in gable to front of roof. Band course over first floor;
moulded stone eaves cornice and coped parapet continuous with
No.1 Market Place (qv).
Right side has 2 similar 6/6-pane sashes to each of first and
second floors, ground floor has C19 canted bay with plate
glass sashes with moulded stone cornice and blocking course
cantilevered over steps and C20 door to cellar below, blind
window and 4-panel door in plain reveals to left. Band course,
cornice and parapet continued from front.
INTERIOR not inspected; said to have been (qv) to have been
refaced 1828, front of gabled roof represents line of former
front of jettied timber-framed building.
