ACCRINGTON TOWNGATE, SD 73 SE Huncoat 3/37 Village Stocks 22.8.1966 in corner of road l00m east of Hill House - II
Village stocks, date uncertain. Square stone uprights, wooden crossbars with housings for 2 pairs of legs; one of the uprights, probably base of guide post, dated 1722 near the base and lettered on 3 sides: HG (some letters reversed); OB; OBL L (??)E ACK EDG BVRN 17022 Parts of decayed seat remain. All enclosed by circular iron railings. (Ainsworth Homesteads p.379; Altham and Huncoat p.227)
