GV II

Two adjoining villas, including front garden walls and railings. Early 1830s. Probably by Philip Sambell. Stucco on masonry; asbestos slate hipped roofs with wide eaves carried on moulded brackets, bead and reel cornice; one brick chimney (left of No.2A) and stuccoed chimney to No.2. L-shaped plan of 2 similar villas, one facing south (2) and one facing east (2A) onto Edward Street. 2 storeys. Each house has a 3-window front with a central domed niche to the ground floor. Panelled giant corner pilasters. Moulded stucco architraves to original sashes except for copies to first floor of No.2A; ground-floor sashes have marginal panes, others are 16- or 12-pane sashes. No.2A has stuccoed porch with corner pilasters, No.2 has elliptically-headed doorway with stucco rustications, panelled door and fanlight. INTERIORS not inspected but likely to be of interest. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: low stuccoed wall, to front, with granite copings and iron railings.
