CROSTHWAITE AND LYTH MILL LANE SD 48 SW (South side) 9/26 Farmhouse and 7.10.86 adjoining barn approx 46m to north-east of Crosthwaite Corn Mill (q.v.) G.V. II
Farmhouse and adjoining bank barn/byre range. Tenement first mentioned in 1618. Deeds indicate c1828 date for present house but interior suggests earlier date: later alterations. Barn/byre range adjoining to right is possibly c1828 rebuild or addition. Coursed squared rubble with quoins: house is rendered, barn has rows of projecting through-stones. Graduated slate roofs. 2-storey, 3-bay house has part-glazed inner door to central, gabled porch with internal, slate, side-benches; late C20 double-glazed aluminium casement in original opening under drip-course, to either side on each floor. Single-storey, 3-bay barn has 'L'-shaped plan: Central wagon entrance has pivoted plank double doors: plank door in outshut on right. Byre on lower ground floor has 2 plank doors and casement'to south gable, with lean-to earth closet adjoining. Interior of house has stop-chamfered beams, doors with fielded panels, and dog-leg closed string stair with square-section balusters.
