Details

TG 20 NW/TG 23780692 NORWICH 4/2A Archway approximately 160 metres west south west of County Hall - II Garden building in grounds of County Hall (formerly of Bracondale Lodge demolished in 1960s). Circa 1800, re-using late C12 and C14 carved stone mouldings of ecclesiastical provenance. Designed either by William Wilkins (sen), architect of Bracondale Lodge, or by Humphry Repton who designed the landscape. Flint and brick with ashlar dressings and faced with ashlar to eastern side. 2 centred archway with pediment above. Roll-moulded archway and a C14 octofoil opening in tympanum above. Moulded cornices. Inscription with letters M.C.I. in tympanum. See G. Carter, P. Goode and K.
