II

Formerly known as: New Mills BEECHES ROAD. Mill house. Mill said to have been founded on this site 1530; present mill house retains some probable C16 work in much altered wing to right, late C18 and C20 alterations and additions to main range. Coursed squared limestone rubble, gable facing to right cement rendered; stone slate roof, hipped and with catslide to right, flat felt roof to wing to right; rendered stack on gable facing to right, rebuilt stone ridge and right-end stacks on rear range, brick stack in valley of double-pile main range, tall brick stack on gablet to rear. Double-pile main range has gable facing to right where it previously joined mill, now demolished, which projected forwards over mill stream to form L-plan; earlier wing to right of main range. 2-storey 3-window main range has C19, 2- and 3-light casements to first floor; one C20 window and one late C18 6/6-pane sash to ground floor, late C18, 9-pane half-glazed door within C20 extension to right; gable facing to right has two 2-light timber casements to first floor, two C20 windows to ground floor. Main range has rudimentary quoins to left angle; left side has C18 2-storey rendered canted bay with three 6/6-pane sashes to first floor, three C20 windows to ground floor. Wing to right has 2 former openings to ground floor with exposed timber lintels now blocked by C20 garage, battered buttresses to ground floor, walls partially rebuilt in C19/ C20 to first floor with C20 windows, flush quoins to rear right angle, flat felt roof. Rear elevation has two C20 single-storey lean-to additions, C20 windows. INTERIOR partially inspected; late C18 well staircase now without balustrade, late C18 reeded stone chimneypiece without grate to ground floor front left, late C18 three-panel shutters to windows, dado rail and 6-panel door with moulded architrave, this room and hall have boxed-out beams with panelled soffits, boxed-out beam in kitchen to rear, heavy shallow-section chamfered beam to ground floor rear right.
