Details
TM 1938 WOOLVERSTONE WOOLVERSTONE PARK 7/49 Cat House 22.2.55 - II Eyecatcher and house. 1793 with later alterations and additions. Red brick in Flemish bond. Slate roof. Gothick style. Front is segment-arched on plan. 2 storeys, 3 bays. Canted porch on slender cast iron columns containing studded door under segmental brick arch with inserted hoodmould. Casement windows with pointed heads and cusped Y-tracery. Tiny cusped lights flanking porch. Segment arched first floor casement windows with pointed lights. North gable end is embattled and has a large 4-light window with intersecting tracery of c.1985 replacing former mock window with pointed tracery. Rear has similar fene- stration to front. Entrance to extension of c.1985 to south gable end. Central stack. Said to have been used to guide smugglers. B Jones Follies and Grottos. 1974.
