Cottage. Mid-late C17 with C19 extension. Plastered cob on rubble footings, brick
extensions; probably cob stack with plastered chimney shaft of probably C20 brick;
thatch roof, corrugated iron to extension.
2-room plan cottage facing south with large left (western) end stack. Secondary
service outshot to rear. Cottage is 2 storeys.
Irregular 2-window front of C19 casements with glazing bars. The first floor
windows have thatch eyebrows over. The front doorway is roughly central and
contains a C19 part-glazed 4-panel door. A flat-roofed C20 conservatory has been
erected in front of the door and window to the left. The roof is hipped to right
and half-hipped to left.
Interior: the C17 fabric remains essentially intact. The 2 rooms are divided by a
cob crosswall. The larger heated room has the original soffit-chamfered and late
step-stopped crossbeam. The fireplace is blocked by a C20 grate but the large
fireplace is known to survive behind. The roof is inaccessible but the feet of the
principals show and suggest that the roof structure is original.
