Lift from Western Undercliff to Royal Esplanade at TR3763 6422

Lift. 1928-29 by Basil C. Deacon of Franklin and Deacon of Luton. Stone base and rendered shaft, with glass front. Rusticated and vermiculated base on plinth with heavy cornice to main shaft. Recessed single storey rusticated block to right. Three stage shaft in the form of a pylon with recessed centre panel, the main elevation infilled with coloured glass, graded from dark blue at base to white at top, divided into three stages by cross-panels. The side elevations are simply rendered. The pilaster- buttress crowned at top by fluted frieze, and recessed to parapet to ogival dome, all rendered. Boarded doors in rendered surround at top and bottom of shaft, and to side block (engine house).
