CHURCH STREET, BOWNESS 1. 1834 Stags Head Inn SD 4096 3/5 II GV 2. Faces north-west corner of Church. Three storeys, Victorian, but an earlier and lower part on east end. This earlier part, probably C18, has a centre door with small wooden fretted porch, 2 sash windows on ground floor and 3 on each upper floor (ground and first floors with louvred shutters), wall of scored stucco, flag roof. Higher and later part of stone (slate) rubble with quoins; a 4-storeyed octagonal tower on west angle with a pyramidal roof and wind vane. Sash windows. Lintel of one window painted with "Post horses for hire" No 1, Premises occupied by Hairdresser, Old Kirk Cafe, Old Curio Shop, Stags Head Inn and Rose Cottage form an important village centre group with Parish Church of St Martin, Lake Road, White House, Robinson Place, New Hall Inn with attached buildings to south, Lowside, and Fold Head, Fallbarrow Road. The descriptive notes should be amended to read:-
