Small country house, now hotel. 1798 by Fransisco Bernasconi,
remodelled in the mid C19 by H Stevens of Derby, with
alterations in the C20. Rendered brick and ashlar. Hipped
Welsh slate roofs with brick ridge stacks. Two and three
storeys. North elevation of five plus eight bays. Three
storey, five bay range represents the late C18 house. Angle
quoins and first floor band. Metope frieze. Central porch with
composite columns, now glazed in. Balustraded parapet. Flanked
by tripartite windows with plain sashes. Single sashes beyond.
All have moulded stone surrounds. Five similar sashes above
again. Eight bay C19 wing to left has a 4-light late C19
mullioned and transomed bay window and beyond, a late C19 canted
bay with parapet and ball finials, placed in front of a full
height canted bay rising to an attic storey. Otherwise plain
C19 sashes. South elevation of main block, of six irregular
bays, has a full length iron verandah in front of six tall plain
sashes in moulded architraves. Two tiers of C20 windows above
set in single moulded surrounds the height of the two storeys.
Conservatory attached to left. Projecting mid Victorian bay to
right has a mullioned and transomed canted bay window with
decorative Jacobean Style parapet with crestwork and ball
finials. Interior entirely remodelled in mid to late C19.
Stained glass in the staircase window and the residents' lounge.
