Coaching inn, now public house. Early C19, probably with
earlier origins; later C19 alteration and extension. Painted
stone front, rear of coursed rubble stone; carriage arch
refronted in cream brick, rear of orange-red brick, both in
English garden-wall bond; rear wings of orange-red brick in
stretcher bond, and pink and cream mottled brick in Flemish
bond. Pantile roof to later rear wing and slate roofs
elsewhere; conjoined stack of cream and red brick at centre
left. 3-storey 4-window front. Cambered carriage arch of
voussoirs at left end. Right part on plinth, with central
doorcase of plain pilasters and cornice hood on bulbous
brackets; door of 6 raised-and-fielded panels. Both flanking
windows have 2-pane upper sashes, and single-pane lower sashes
of opaque glass incorporating the words "George Hotel".
Remaining windows are 4-pane sashes, those on second floor
squat, with painted flat arches and stone sills. Known
originally as the Black Horse Inn.
