Attached house, now public house. c1665, refaced mid C18. Brick facade over a timber-frame, roof not visible. Double-depth plan. 3 storeys, attic and basement; 3-window range. A truncated gable to the street, the floors marked by moulded bands, parapet with angled outer beams to a central modillion cornice, and the roof gable set back behind. C19 public house front has double panelled doors set between large shop windows with glazing bars, with a right-hand doorway to the upstairs set back, and fascia and cornice. First-floor 9/9-pane sashes, second-floor mullion casements and 2 attic casements, in flush frames. INTERIOR: panelled ground floor with bolection mouldings, moulded beams and continued overmantel and fire surround to the front room with an eared architrave and rocaille carving, and C17 dogleg stair. The gable was set back in a C18 modernisation. Part of a row of framed C17 houses with Nos 16-20 (qv). (Gomme A, Jenner M and Little B: Bristol, An Architectural History: Bristol: 1979-: 84).
