SJ3089 PARK ROAD WEST 789-1/7/135 (North East side) 28/03/74 No.78 Castellated Lodge (Formerly Listed as: BIRKENHEAD PARK Entrance gateway consisting of Castellated Lodge and 5 gatepiers)

Lodge to Birkenhead Park. c1843-47. By Lewis Hornblower and John Robertson under the direction of Sir Joseph Paxton. Coursed and squared rubble with leaded roof. 2 storeys, asymmetrical plan comprised of a series of towers. Main tower advanced to left, with single storey flat roofed porch in angle, and 3-light mullioned and transomed window on each floor. Angle buttresses and embattled projecting parapet. Similar tower recessed to right, and octagonal tower to rear. Forms part of the original development of Birkenhead Park.
