II
Former Board school, now in use as education centre. c1905. Brick with stone and terracotta dressings and Welsh slate roof with ridge cresting. 2 storeys with attic, 12-window main range (3-2-2-2-3) with two parallel rear wings. Outer bays of main range advanced, with steep pavilion roofs. Inner doorways and round arched lower windows with white terracotta banded voussoirs and stone sills. Scrolled pedimented heads to doors and outer windows, interrupting the frieze above. Upper windows in outer bays also round-headed, with white terracotta keystones and moulded jambs and string course. They are divided by semi-octagonal pilasters sprung from corbels which continue across the parapet above. Central round-arched dormer window with steep scrolled pedimented head and pierced parapet between outer pinnacles. Central section is divided into 3 main bays by semi-octagonal pilasters above ground floor level. Each bay has 2 squared lower windows and round-arched windows above with moulded terracotta architraves and white terracotta keystones. Terracotta frieze above lower storey with low relief strap-work, masks and swags, and "Board School". Moulded string course. Central pedimented gable with terracotta frieze and oculus in scrolled raised panel. Hipped roofed dormers each side of pediment, and two swept octagonal lanterns to roof. Return elevations each have 3-window range each side of central pedimented gable, housing the former boys, and girls and infants entrances. Axial stacks. Brick wall to forecourt on north and west sides, with stone copings and banded stone piers. Cast-iron railings with arrow heads and scrollwork.
