GV II
House, built as Lodge to Birkenhead Park. By Lewis Hornblower and John Robertson. 1843-7. Snecked rubble with Welsh slate roof. Picturesque Tudor style. 2 storeys, L-plan with gable to left and doorway in projecting gabled porch. Square projecting 3-light mullioned window in gable with parapet over, and 2-light window above. Small dormer window over the doorway, and chimney stack with cylindrical and diagonal flues corbelled out alongside. Additional similar stack on side wall of gabled wing. The lodge forms part of the original development of Birkenhead Park, laid out by Joseph Paxton between 1843 and 1847.
