Lodge to Birkenhead Park. c1843-7. By Lewis Hornblower and John Robertson for Sir Joseph Paxton. Ashlar-faced with Welsh slate roof. Single storeyed with 2 storey central block. 3 bays, symmetrical about both axes. Recessed entrance with fluted Doric shafts and plain entablature in central block, with single storey bays advanced on each side, the windows renewed in original openings with shouldered architraves. Inserted window over doorway. Side wall stacks on central range. The lodge is one of a pair with Norman Lodge West (q.v.) and forms part of the original development of Birkenhead Park.
