Workhouse, isolation hospital at time of listing. 1851. Built as the Truro Union Workhouse. Coursed Bath stone with granite dressings to entrance wing, otherwise local rubble with brick dressings; granite sills, keyblocks, eaves cornices and coped gable ends; dry Delabole slate gabled roof over entrance wing, otherwise replaced with asbestos slate; brick axial stacks. Large plan with wings ranged round three courtyards; E-shaped plus end wings to entrance range wing; central octagonal tower. Entrance wing is two storeys with single-storey entrance porch and two projecting wings all under same eaves level, otherwise three storeys except for four-storey tower. Symmetrical 3:1:3:1:3:1:3-bay entrance front has plinth, string, chamfered eaves cornice and coped gables with moulded kneelers to the projecting single bays with tall round arches with voussoirs and keyblocks. Otherwise first-floor sashes within square-headed openings above round-arched ground-floor windows with projecting keyblocks and original hornless sashes with glazing bars and spoked fanlight heads. Central doorway has spoked fanlight over C20 reduced door (originally with iron gates). Other elevations similarly unaltered, except where hidden by C20 additions, and retain most of the original hornless sashes with glazing bars set in brick surrounds with keyblocks to upper floors.
