- II
Former farmhouse. Mid C17, with C16 fragments. 2 storeys and attics; modernised exterior; 3-cell form. Timber-framed and rendered; clay pantiles. An internal chimney-stack with a plain red brick shaft. Plain 2-light casement windows, an enclosed, gabled porch, and a 2-storey wing at the rear, all dating from the mid C20. At the north end, 2 bays of C16 framing, with heavy arched braces at the angles; the remainder of the frame has a combination of features not easy to reconcile, but apparently of one date: primary braces and bisected studs; deep, narrow main beams and joists set on edge; moulded post-heads on ground floor;'some reconstructed diamond-mullioned windows in apparently original positions. Good roof, with clasped purlins, diminished principals and windbraces. For a similar unusual combination of features cf. The Mutton, 0ffton, near Ipswich.
