Details

CHARLBURY SP3519 PLAYING CLOSE 5/87 (North-West side) Fountain GV II

Fountain. 1897 by John Kibble. Ashlar. Jacobethan style; octagonal plan. Plinth with round half columns supports arcade of rounded arches with moulded imposts and keyblocks. VR and inscription on entablature under moulded cornice with circles in pediments, one mounted by crowns. Central cupola in form of a crown has ball finial. Inscription records that the fountain was presented by Harvey du Cros of Cornbury Park to commemorate the visit of Queen Victoria in 1886, the provision of piped water in the town in 1896 and the Diamond Jubilee in 1897.
