Details
EAST KNOYLE THE STREET ST 83 SE (west side) 8/59 Black Horse House GV II Inn, now one house. Late C17. Dressed limestone, tiled roof with coped verges and brick stacks. Two-storey, 5-window. Seven- panelled door in moulded architrave to-right of centre with 2-light casement and C19 two-storey canted bay with margin-pane windows to right, 2-light and 3-light casements and 9-panelled door with flat wooden hood on brackets to left. First floor has four 2-light casements and canted bay to right, recessed triangular-headed panel over front door. Rear brick wing with C20 casements, former clubroom to first floor, attached to rear of main range is glazed conservatory, brought here from Fonthill in 1970s. Interior has chamfered beams, open fireplace with chamfered lintel on chamfered stone jambs, some doors with 4 fielded panels. Known as the Black Horse Inn up to mid C19; used as a Post Office during 1930s.
