4/22 The Grange -
- II
House, marked on O.S. map as 'The Vicarage'. Late C18/early C19. 2 storeys. Colour-washed over red brick, laid in Flemish Bond; slate roof, fully hipped, with wide, plain eaves. 4 window range: small-paned sashes, in flush frames with gauged heads on the upper floor; 2 similar, but wider windows to the ground floor, and 2 later narrow sashes on the east, replacing a former wide early C19 shop window. Off-centre entrance door with 6 sunk panels and applied mouldings, open triangular pediment with dentil ornament, panelled pilasters and linings, fanlight with radiating glazing-bars. The building is set sideways-on at the end of the Green, and in the gable facing the road is a 6-panel door with raised fielded panels which formerly gave access to the shop. On the rear wall are 3 red brick chimney-stacks, and 2 later C19 wings extend southwards. Plain interior.
