TL 96 SE NORTON WOOLPIT ROAD 5/123 Crawley Hall Farmhouse (formerly listed as 15.11.55 Crawley Hall)

GV II

Farmhouse, mid C16 and early C17, in 3 sections. The earliest range of one storey with attics, the centre range 2 storeys, the C17 crosswing at west end 2 storeys with attics. Timber-framed and plastered: the centre section is long-wall jettied to the south at 1st floor, and the crosswing has an oversailing tiebeam at the south gable. Plaintiled roofs: 2 C19 gabled casement dormers at low section. 2 axial chimneys of C16 or C17 red brick. A fine early C17 chimney of orange brick, external to the crosswing: 3 octagonal detached flues on moulded bases, with square C19 cap. Small-pane C19 and C20 casements, C19 small-pane sashes in crosswing. C19 4-panelled entrance door. Various C18/C19 extensions to rear under catslide roofs; at the east end this incorporates some encasing of main range in flint and brick. Interior: A 3- cell mid C16 house at the east end. To this was added in mid/late C16 a 2-bay in-line parlour block, long-wall jettied, with close-studding. Beyond this was added a parlour cross-wing in early C17, with ovolo-moulded main beams, floor joists set on-edge, and an arched brick fireplace.
