WETHERINGSETT-CUM-BROCKFORD WETHERUP STREET TM 16 SW 5/138 The Cottage -
GV II House. Late C17. Extended to left in C18, probably when subdivided. Timber framed and rendered, thatched roof. 3 cells. 1½ storeys. C20 casement windows, those to ground floor with horizontal glazing bars. 2 gabled dormers with 2-light single-pane windows. 2 doorways with mid C20 doors and thatched timber trellis porches. Internal stack has rendered shaft. Possibly original pantiled lean-to at rear on right, with C20 work adjoining. Interior. Substantial full-height studding, much probably re-used, with straight primary braces. Hall bridging beam has been halved longitudinally and re-used; C16 joists with large chamfers and broach stops at inner ends. Similarly re-used beam in parlour, the joists plain and set flat. Newel stair. Re-used rafters, some sooted.
