WETHERDEN STOWMARKET ROAD TM 06 SW

4/230 - Home Farm

GV II

House, early C16 core with major remodelling of C17 and mid C20. Probably built as a parlour wing to the attached Maypole Inn (believed once to have been The Maltsters Arms). 2 storeys and attic. Timber-framed and encased in mid C20 red brick. Concrete plaintiled roof; an internal end chimney with rebuilt shaft of C19 gault brick to left. Two C20 raking casement dormers. Mid C20 small-pane casements and fully glazed entrance door. The cell to right of entrance and adjacent to Stowmarket Road has fine early C16 framing. Heavy exposed first floor joists of triangular section each with 4 cavettos and a rib in the manner of c.1500. Close-studding. Late C17 or C18 clasped purlin roof. Included despite C20 remodelling, for good quality C16 framing and as a former adjunct to the Maypole Inn.
