Shop and dwelling, c.1520-1550. Two storeys. 3-cell cross-entry plan.
Timber-framed and plastered. Concrete tiled roof, hipped to right, (once thatched).
An axial chimney, the shaft rebuilt in mid C20 red brick. Mid C19 casements.
Two large late C19/early C20 shop windows. Half-glazed panelled C19 door at
cross-entry position. Heavy and quite complete timber-framing.
Tension-braced studding with blocked diamond-mullioned windows. Deeply chamfered
1st-floor beams, unchamfered joists of medieval proportions. Crown-post roof: the
square post over the centre of the hall is completely unbraced; slender
arch braces at posts in partition trusses at some points. One bay of the 2-bay
parlour cell to left was demolished and replaced by a taller parlour block in
late C19. A separate chimney bay between hall and parlour: the chimney has
back-to-back open fireplaces (blocked). A lean-to C17/C18 dairy extension to
right, and C19 additions to rear.
