PALGRAVE CROSSING ROAD (NORTH SIDE) TM 1178 5/64 The Thatches -

House, latterly 3 dwellings. Early to mid C16. Stack inserted, floored and extended in early C17, altered C19. Timber frame. Plastered with some brick casing. Thatched roofs. Originally probably a small open hall of 2 bays with a larger and wider 2-bay, 2 storey parlour addition to right, 1 bay added to left or service end. Now all 2 storeys. Parlour bays to right have brick and flint plinth, steps up to a central entrance with a gabled hood, flanking 6 and 12 light metal frame casements, with some leaded lights. To far left steps up to a boarded door. Rebuilt ridge stacks between parlour and hall bays and hall and added service bay. Return and rear of parlour bays are cased in C19 brick with a gable end external stack. To rear 2 entrances, metal frame casements and a clay lump outshut. Interior: hall bays have an arched brace from a jowled post to a cambered tie beam, stop chamfered axial binding beam. Parlour bays have a cross axial binding beam with roll moulded joists.
