BUCKLAND SU39NW 2/28 Wellington Lodge

GV II

House. C18, remodelled and right wing added c.1850. Coursed limestone rubble; stone slate roof; brick stacks. L-plan. 2 storeys and attic to left gable, 2 storeys to right wing; 4-window range. Flat stone ashlar arch over plank door in right side wall of gabled Gothic style porch with trefoil-headed light in front gable wall. Left gable wall has flat stone arches over 2 sashes and square bay window of c.1850 with stone-mullioned chamfered windows. Recessed right wing has flat stone arches to 2 one-light sashes over porch and 2 sashes to right. Gabled roof; ridge stack. Right gable wall has gabled square bay window similar to front left. Two adjoining gabled projections at junction of rear wall of right wing with left wing have timber lintels over sash, C19 casement with bordered lights, C20 door and casements. Left side wall of C18 left wing faces road and has 7-window range of flat stone arches over 4 first-floor leaded casements, mid C19 sash and fixed casement, two C20 casements, blocked window openings and C20 plank door. Mid C19 square bay has wood-mullioned chamfered windows. Interior: Straight-flight stairs with wreathed handrail apposite porch. Rooms have been converted into use as student accommodation for Buckland College. Included for group value.
