GIPPING CHAPEL GREEN TM 06 SE

5/43 Chapel Farmhouse - (formerly listed as Chapel 9/12/55 Farmhouse together with GV II barn and dovecote) Farmhouse, early or mid C16 with alterations of late C17 and later. 2 storeys, 4 windows. Timber-framed and plastered; most of the front elevation is long-wall jettied at 1st floor level. Plaintiled roofs. An axial chimney of red brick with sawtooth shaft, rebuilt in the C17 manner in 1967 as dated on plinth. Various C19 and C20 casements. C19 gabled porch at lobby-entrance position with 6-panelled inner door. The hall and parlour cells of a mid C16 house are at centre and right. The hall has some early C17 wainscotting with a freize, and the C16 floor structure (believed to have moulded joists), has ovolo-moulded plaster in the C17 manner. Good unmoulded framing exposed at 1st storey; the roof was rebuilt with attics, in mid C17. A cell to left was formerly lower and was roofed until C17 as a cross-wing which originally extended rearwards. The present rear service wing to right was added in mid C17. A C20 rear slated lean-to extension.
