GV II
Inn. C17 and late C19. Random rubble stone, double Roman tiled roof with gable end and lateral stone stacks to front elevation. U-plan with front courtyard. Two-storey, 3-window. Central 3- storey gabled porch with round-arched opening with square hoodmould, string courses, 3-light ovolo-mullioned casement with hoodmould to first floor and 2-light blocked mullioned window to attic, coped verge. Ground floor either side of porch has 4-light mullioned casement with hoodmould, left one relieving arch and additional single-light ovolo-moulded light to right of porch, first floor has 3-light mullioned casement either side of porch, flanking stone stacks in angles between porch and front. Wing projecting to right is late C19 with ovolo-mullioned casements and planked doors, ovolo-mullioned casements to gable end and attached single-storey stable. Stable wing to left has 2-light flush mullioned casements and planked loading bay to gable end, cart shed to left fronting street with double planked doors and gabled dormer. C20 flat-roofed extension attached to right return. Rear gabled stair turret. Brewhouse said to have datestone inscribed WK 1625. Interior has winding newel stairs in rear stair turret, with planked door with strap hinges at foot, chamfered beams in main room. (VCH, Wiltshire, Vol 7, 1953)
