TL 6463 NEWMARKET HIGH STREET (including EXNING) 7/93 Jubilee Clock Tower
II
Clock tower, 1887. In the Gothic style. In 3 stages, square plan. Red brick with quoins and ornament in limestone. Plaintiled pyramid roof with gablets containing louvres, a weather vane with surmounting racehorse. The ground stage has a drinking fountain on 3 faces within a pointed arched recess which has applied diaperwork terracotta tiles; angle buttresses. The second stage has a frieze with the carved inscription "1837. Jubilate Victoriae.1887 Clock presented by C. Blanton. Erected by voluntary contribution". Above the frieze, windows in the Early English Style in 2 tiers on each face. The set-back 3rd stage has a clock framed in limestone with terracotta ornament.
