GREAT TEW THE AVENUE SP3929 (West side) 10/71 Bee boles approx. 20m. to SW of No.37

GV II

Bee boles or dog-kennels. Probably early C19. Marl stone ashlar and oak; Stonesfield-slate roof. Single range. The structure has a stone base, and the stone end walls have small gables with moulded drips. The outer angles of the gable walls are roughly chamfered and have been faced with a decorative element now missing. The wooden front is approx. 1m. high by 3m. long and has blind 6-bay arcade of pointed arches of 3 chamfered orders with a continuous hood mould, the piers of which are missing. Rear wall has framing for 3 doors. Possibly by Thomas Rickman. Included for group value. (V.C.H.: Oxfordshire, Vol.XI, p.227).
