Details
NORTON WOODFIELD ROAD SE 51 SW (south side, off), Barnsdale
3/96 Summer House Farmhouse 5.6.68, and flat (formerly listed as Barnsdale Summer House) II Farmhouse now 2 dwellings. c1830, altered. Cement rendered, C20 cement-tile roof. 2 and 3 storeys, 1 : 3 : 1 bays; taller, canted centre with lean-to outer bays; rear addition of later date. In Gothick style. Ashlar plinth. 3 rectangular steps to part-glazed 6-panel door and fanlight with Gothick glazing bars in hooded, arched ashlar surround; other bays have projecting sills and ashlar surrounds to pointed sashes with intersecting-tracery glazing bars. 1st floor: band; central bays have sill band linking ashlar surrounds of trefoil-headed sashes; blind quatrefoils to bays 1 and 5. 2nd floor: centre has string course, 3 blind quatrefoils and band. Embattled parapets mask the roofs, the centre with ridge stack and hip to rear. Prominent landmark visible from the Great North Road (Al).
