6/81 Flint Farmhouse
II
House of several building periods, but mainly late C17 or early C18 and extended late C18. Original house timber framed, rendered with roof raised in late C18 when parlour wing added. Steeply pitched, thatched roof, now covered with corrugated iron. Ridge stack of yellow gault brick. Three bay, lobby entry plan. Now two storeys. Two C19 windows at first floor and two canted bays on either side of doorway to lobby entry. At the rear is a framed and rendered, C18 addition, possibly a wash house. Thatched, steeply pitched roof with later end stack. One storey and attic. In the late C18 a parlour wing was added incorporating the left hand bay of the original house. Gault brick, Flemish bond partly casing the original house. The roof is hipped to the front. Two storeys. Segmental arches to two windows. In the C19 a single kitchen range was added to the right hand of the original house. Brick and thatched. Inside: Some of the panelling from the mid-late C18 house is in situ, and there is a mid C19 open-string staircase with column balusters and moulded rail. Framing exposed in part internally including the original wall plate and the later wall facing from the late C18 roof raise. The C19 kitchen wing has its original oven and copper.
