CLAY COTON STANFORD-ON-AVON ROAD SP57NE (East side) 6/5 Manor Farmhouse 18/01/68 (Formerly listed as Manor House)

GV II

Shown on O.S. map as Manor House. Manor house. Probably late C16, altered C18. Part timber framed with small framing and brick infill on a lias plinth and part brick with a plain-tile roof covering. Cruciform plan. 2 storeys with attic. Entrance front of 4-window range of casements, some with leaded lights under timber lintels and brick arches. Centre gabled cross wing has exposed timber framing with bracing. 2-storey projecting wing to right is probably C18 with single-storey infill abutting the cross wing. C19 door to right of centre. 2 hipped roof dormers to left of cross wing have leaded lights. Large central brick and stone stack and brick stack at end. Other elevations have projecting gabled cross wings of brick; some with chequered patterning and string course at first floor level. Interior: Kitchen to left of entrance has open fireplace with bressumer. Staircase not inspected but noted as being late C16 or early C17 with square newels. Elaborate turned finials and splat balusters cut in dumbell shape. Heavy moulded handrail. First floor room noted as having a C17 overmantel with 3 bays of shallow shell patterning and remnants of C16 panelling.
