Details

MIDWAY 1. 5113 (East Side) South Crosland Nos 46 to 50 (even) SE 1112 50/939 21.11.77 II 2. No 48 C17 or early C18, remainder C18. Hammer-dressed stone. Pitched stone slate roof. No 50 has coped gable end with moulded kneelers. Main front (south front of No 46) has 2 tripartite casements on ground floor, 2 on 1st floor, and one 5-light stone mullioned casement (2 lights blocked, 2 mullions removed). Porch of large ashlar masonry with chamfered monolithic lintel, small oculi in each wall, and stone benches all round inside. Fine ledged oak door with iron studs and ornamental hinges, in chamfered surround. No 48 has one range of casements with chamfered stone mullions; ground floor one 3-light, as was 1st floor one, but one mullion has been removed and the other placed centrally, making 2 lights with sashes. No 50 has 2 ranges of 3-light stone mullioned windows, mullions recessed within frame. Valley between roofs of Nos 46 and 48 has water table of diagonally placed stone slates. On the 12 March 1812 Pond Farm was raided by Luddites, suspecting the existence of a power loom in Mr George Roberts' finishing shop.
