Details

SP 0738 CHILDSWICKHAM CP ATKINSON STREET (south side) 7/156 Wyck Cottage GV II House. C17, with earlier remains and C20 alterations. Stone rubble with remains of cruck frame. Two storeys. At the right (west) is a gabled wing which has two windows on the ground floor with plain reveals, and a similar window on the first floor. Straight joints to each side suggest rebuilding in stages, perhaps with stone replacing timber-framing. To the left is a single-storey C20 range with garage and doorway. Above it is a gable pro- jecting from the east wall of the wing, suggesting that the C20 range may be on the site of an earlier part of the building. The west wall of the wing contains a window which has three small chamfered lights cut into a single piece of stone. To its right are two windows with keyed lintels, the right- hand one within a blocked doorway. Chimney on rear wall of wing. Interior: ground floor rooms of wing have exposed ceiling joists. Those in the rear room are chamfered and stopped. This room contains a C17 stone fireplace with canted head. On the first floor, part of a cruck truss is visible in the central partition wall. The two blades, part of the collar, and one spur are visible.
