7/11 (South East Side) Markeygate House
GV II
House. C17 with possibly earlier core and with much subsequent remodelling. Rendered rubble limestone with gritstone dressings, quoins, coped gables with moulded kneelers, intermediate and end ridge stacks of stone. Welsh slates and stone slates. 'L'-plan. Two storeys, three bays, formerly with mullioned windows throughout, but now with some C20 glazing. Gable to south west end with 2- and 3-light flush mullioned windows and sash frames without glazing bars. Openings to north east end have plain surrounds and C20 glazing. Central doorway with C17 surround and planked and studded door within C18 flat roofed porch, ashlar, and having a moulded doorcase. South west side wall has restored 2-light chamfer mullioned window. Interior: a single upper cruck truss survives in the centre of the house. Moulded spine beams to ground floor, a good C18 hearth, and two plainer hearths side by side. Roughly run moulded band to wall plaster of some first floor rooms. Some C17 square and plank and muntin panelling.
