Details

GLEN ROAD 1. 1633 Glen Close (Flats 1, 2, 3 and 4) SY 1287 1/251 II 2. Circa 1830-40 two storey stuccoed villa, now divided into flats with some alterations and renovations. Low pitch hipped slate roof, wide eaves, terracota diamond pattern chimney pots. Main elevation to south facing garden: projecting centre of 3 windows with flanking recessed bays of 1 window each. Central 1st floor window is a 4-light French casement with octagonal panes and an elliptical arched fanlight over with radial glazing. The window gives onto modern iron balcony. Other 1st floor windows, recessed sashes also with octagonal glazing. All have Venetian shutters. Ground floor has tent-roofed verandah, lowered in centre below balcony, with octagonal supports with fanned brackets. 2 large, octagonal glazed 4-light French casements to centre. The verandah is carried across recessed side bays which have 2-light French casements. On the west side is a conservatory with canted end. Transomed octagonal glazed lights all round. Finial to glazed hipped roof. The entrance front to east has been altered with later fenestration. Tudor style doorway to Flat No 1. Flat No 2 has tent roof trellis porch, probably a modern repro- duction.
