2/52 Temple Approximately 22 Metres To West Of Purley Hall (formerly listed as 14.4.67 Temple at Purley Hall)

Temple. Dated 1746, restored 1913. Flint with brick plinth and slate roof. Open triangular pedimented gable end. Entrance consists of Serlian motif with square piers, blocked rustication, wooden cornice, and central rusticated arch with mask on keystone. Interior: arched niche to rear flanked by 2 blank circular panels, and blank circular panels on end walls. Seat around 3 sides with lattice back. Tablet reads: Erected according to tradition to commemorate the battle of Culloden. 1746. Restored 1913 HCW. V.C.H. (Berks), pp.417-418; B.O.E, Berkshire, p.195; Country Life, CXLVii, pp.310-313 and pp.366-369.
