10/15 NO 56 (THE WHITE HART PUBLIC HOUSE)

GV II

c 1630 inn of 2 storeys and attics with gable end to road. C17 timber-framed wing to east of one bay with carriageway under. Plan of 3 bays and narrower stairbay. Timber framed, rough-cast rendered. Originally jettied at first and attic storeys, but first floor jetty underbuilt in brick. Plain tiled roof with C19 bargeboarding and pendant to gable end. Later side stack to west and end stack to north. One horizontal sliding sash with glazing bars to attic storey and one hung sash with glazing bars in open boxing to ground and first floors. Side elevation: C17 3-light casement with leaded lights and one C18 horizontal sliding sash. Interior, c 1630 closed string staircase of 4 flights with oak treads and posts with carved finials and moulded rail. North gable end has sealed inglenook with C19 settle. Stop- chamfered main beams. . RCHM (Hunts) p 255, mon (17).
