ST 77 NE TORMARTON C.P. WEST LITTLETON ROAD, West Littleton (west side) 6/308 17.9.52 Church Farmhouse G.V. II
Farmhouse. C17 origin, refronted early C18, porch dated ST/BA/1771, C19 addition to rear wing, addition to east c. 1930, with later C20 alterations and additions. Limestone rubble, stone dressings, ashlar porch, rendered, stone tiled roof with raised coped verges and gable stacks, double Roman tiles and slates to rear. Originally L-plan. 2 storeys and 3 windows, main house has lower pitch to roof to right; all Venetian windows, central light with segmental head to sash with splayed glazing bars, 8-pane sash to each side, plain stone surround, dormer with hipped roof and 2-light casement to right, central porch with square Doric columns, triglyph above each column, cornice and parapet with 2 large acorns, panelled and glazed door with pointed arch, remains of continuous hood mould to right of porch. Addition to right c. 1930 of 2 storeys and 2 windows, ground floor has 2 similar Venetian windows, C20 door with 2 sidelights to right, 2 triple windows under eaves. Right return has single light window to attic of main house in moulded stone surround; lower block has ground and first floor single light, 2 Venetian windows at ground floor, single and triple window under eaves. Left return has 2 attic windows, to right a 2-light C19 stone casement; ground floor and lower ground floor left have 2-light casement with moulded mullions and C20 glazing. Rear of addition has porch and first floor 2-light casement, external stack to rear with 4-pane casement at first floor. Rear of main house has late C18/early C19 lean-to to left, continuing the slope of the main roof, with 2-light casement with ovolo mullions to left and similar casement with hood mould. 2-storey rear wing has at first floor left a 3-light casement with wave-moulded mullions and some leaded lights remaining, C20 French window; to right a single storey lean-to, and to rear of wing a C19 single storey addition with pitched slate roof and gable stack, door to rear and door and window to right, pitched roof of rear porch supported by Tuscan column, single storey lean- to to left with 4-pane casement and 6-pane casement. Rear of main house has to right of rear wing a dormer with hipped roof, lower slope of roof with double Roman tiles. Interior: early C19 stair, probable site of former stair at rear first floor landing, newel post and some turned balusters (some replacements) remaining; floor level changes at point where slope of roof alters at front, some bays of lower roof visible with 2 rows of purlins and cambered collar, purlins cut through for dormer at front.
