Terraced town house. c. 1727 origin, remodelled internally and
externally in 1776 by John Johnson and refaced 1854-55 to the standard
Italianate designs of Thomas Cundy II. Stucco faced, slate roof.
4 storeys and basement. 4 windows wide. Banded rustication to ground
floor with vermiculated even quoining. Entrance in 2nd bay from right
with Tuscan column porch; plate glass sash windows. Upper floors,
with banded rustication to quoin pilasters, have eared architrave
windows, those on 1st floor with pediments. Deep enriched crowning
entablature with modillion bracketed cornice broken over quoin
pilasters and balustraded parapet. Balustraded 1st floor balcony
carried over porch; cast iron window guards on consoled sills of 2nd
floor windows; string course to 3rd floor. The interior has one of
the most complete neo-classical decorative schemes on the Estate, all
apparently to Johnson's design with plasterwork cornices, friezes and
overmantels; monochrome painted circular panels to rear bowed end
room; elaborate stucco and painted ceilings on 1st floor in Biagio
Rebecca style and statuary marble chimney pieces, all of high quality;
panelled hall and domed stairwell with wrought scrolled balustrade to
stone steps etc.
