NORTH MOLTON THE SQUARE (north side), SS 7229-7329 18/188 Group of 3 memorials approximately - 32 metres to south of south aisle of Church of All Saints GV II Group of 3 memorials. Mid to late C18 and early C19. Sandstone. Headstone approximately 30 metres to south of aisle. Mid to late C18. Shaped head with carved winged cherub's head. Inscription: "I was in Health the Eve of Night/Called of by Death, by morning light/My unperceived and sudden Call/Affected my Wife and Children All". No name noted at time of survey (October 1987). Chest tomb approximately 32 metres to south of aisle. Late C18. Moulded plinth, beaded corners, and moulded cornice to flat top. Paired raised and fielded side panels, and recessed moulded oval end panels with carved winged cherubs' heads in upper spandrels and carved foilage and scrollwork in lower spandrels (west end badly weathered). Inscription in east end-panel: "Underneath/This Tomb lieth ye/Body of Mary ye/Wife of George Frayne/of this Town who died/May the 1st 1765 Aged/43" (much in cursive script). Inscription in right-hand panel on south side: "Nigh this place lie the/Body of --- the Son of/George and Mary Frayne/of this Town who died May 8th 1766/Aged 22" (much in cursive script). Inscription in left-hand panel on south side to George, son of George and Mary Frayne (d. 17 August 1822, aged 71). Pair of memorial slabs and enclosing grate approximately 34 metres to south of aisle. Early C19. Approximately square plan. Two slate slabs. Inscription obscured at time of survey (October 1987) but the name (Shapland) and the date (1820) noted. Enclosing wrought-iron grate with rectangular-section spear-head railings and square- section standards at corners with forelock bolts.
