Details
SOUTHOLT TM 16 NE 4/55 Homestall - II Former farmhouse. Mid C16 parlour cell; hall and service cells have medieval origins, with later alterations and possibly rebuilding. Timber framed with textured cement render under a pantiled roof. 2 storeys, formerly with attic. 3-cell form. 3 windows, mid C20 standard casements without glazing bars. C20 gabled porch with 6-panel raised and fielded door. Internal stack, entirely rebuilt following the collapse of the original c.1953; C19 external gable stack to right. Small additions on each gable end. Parlour cell has fine close studding with reverse-curved braces; parlour has axial bridging beam and closely-spaced chamfered joists. Roof over parlour cell has clasped and butt purlins with incomplete wind braces. Hall and service cells much altered with little of the structure visible. Hall has chamfered-joist ceiling, possibly inserted, one bay lost to a mid C20 stair. Roof over this section is an C18 reconstruction, re-using many sooted medieval rafters.
