Details

NORTH MOLTON SS 72 NE 14/121 Sannacott Farmhouse - II Farmhouse. Mid C17, remodelled and enlarged in the mid to late C18. Enlarged in the late C19. Rendered, partly over stone, with gable-ended scantle-slate roof. Hipped scantle-slate roof over C19 block. C19 addition of coursed stone rubble with red- brick dressings. C17 dressed stone stack to right with weatherings and C18 stone stack to rear of left-hand end. C19 red-brick ridge stacks to rear block. Plan and development: C17 2-room plan, facing south, with lateral stack to rear of left-hand room and end stack to right-hand room. Remodelled in the mid to late C18, when eaves were probably raised. Service rooms with loft over added at right-hand end, probably at the same time. C19 addition to rear of left-hand end. 2 storeys. Exterior: Left-hand end with 3 windows to first floor and 2 to ground floor; C18 boxed 16-pane glazing bar sashes (each leaf of 4 panes across and 2 up), and central first floor 8-pane sash. C18 addition to right has first-floor C18 small paned wooden casement to left, ground-floor C18 wooden cross window to left with wrought- iron bars and C19 half-glazed door and 4-paned casement to right, both with wooden lintels. Left-hand gable end has ground-floor C20 16-pane glazing bar sash in probably C19 opening with segmental brick head and narrow keystone. Left-hand side (west) of rear wing with 3 segmental-headed 4-pane sashes to each floor and C19 half- glazed door to right with hipped-roofed porch. Interior: Left-hand ground-floor room has C17 chamfered cross beam with stepped runout stops and C19 marble chimney-piece to rear. Kitchen in C19 addition has brick segmental-arched fireplace with bread oven. C18 4-bay roof over front range with nailed collar trusses. C18 roof over loft to right too, also with nailed collar trusses. First-floor rooms not inspected.
