Details
NORTH MOLTON SS 7229-7329 18/125 West Park Farmhouse - GV II Farmhouse. Mid to late C17 with mid to late C19 alterations and additions. Rendered, probably over stone rubble and cob, with gable-ended asbestos-slate roof (formerly thatched). C19 additions of uncoursed stone rubble (red brick dressings to C19 lean-to addition) with gable-ended scantle-slate roof. C17 stone stacks with weatherings and later red-brick tops; C19 red-brick stack to wing. Plan and development: Overall L-plan C17 two-room central-entrance plan, facing south. Integral end stacks and staircase at rear of central entrance hall. C19 kitchen wing projecting at right angles to front of right-hand end with store-room in ground-floor to front. Continuous lean-to at rear of C17 range, altered or added in the C19. Eaves probably raised at some time (see joints in left-hand gable end), possibly in the C19. Two storeys. Exterior: Formerly symmetrical front, now asymmetrical with 4 windows to first floor and 3 to ground floor; mid to late C19 two-light wooden casements. Entrance (central to C17 range) between second and third ground-floor windows from left with C19 four- panelled door (upper panels glazed and lower panels beaded flush). Four stone steps up to doorway. Gable end of C19 wing to right with shaped barge boards and first- floor C19 two light wooden casement with segmental stone-arched head. Left-hand return front with 2 first-floor C19 wooden small-paned casements and ground-floor C19 2-light wooden casement off-centre to left with segmental stone-arched head. Boarded door to left with segmental stone-arched head and boarded door to store-room at right-hand end, with large 3-part rectangular overlight and wooden lintel. Lean-to at rear with C19 two-light wooden casement and C19 boarded door in left-hand (west) end, both with red brick jambs and segmental-arched heads. Interior: Ground-floor rooms in C17 range have chamfered cross beams and half beams with runout stops. C19 staircase to rear of entrance hall, replacing C17 stair. C19 doors. Winder staircase in C19 kitchen wing.
